US-India Relations and Trump’s Backtrack on Kashmir

On August 5, New Delhi revoked the special status of the province of Jammu and Kashmir by abrogating Article 370 of the Indian Constitution (which conferred this special status on Jammu and Kashmir) and divided it into two Union Territories. In the immediate aftermath of this measure, Pakistan reacted by expelling the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan and by downgrading diplomatic ties. Islamabad has also been trying to raise the issue at international forums, but to little effect.
