Nicholas dePencier Wright, BA JD MBA President & CEO

Nick is a Toronto based business lawyer licensed to practice law in Ontario, Canada. He has extensive experience in corporate finance, transactions and governance. The former leader of the Green Party of Nova Scotia, Nick has been actively involved in public affairs and government relations for over a decade. He regularly appears in the Canadian media speaking on public policy issues. Nick holds an Honours BA in Political Philosophy from the University of King’s College, Halifax, Law and MBA degrees from Dalhousie University and a certificate in public relations from the University of Toronto.


Alex Holstein, BA MSc. Director, Corporate & Government Relations

Alex Holstein holds a BA from the University of Southern California and an MSc. in Russian and Post-Soviet Studies from the London School of Economics, where he wrote his thesis on the Soviet KGB. Zachary Fillingham, BA MA Director, Publications

Zachary holds a BA in International Relations from York University and an MA in Chinese Studies from the University of London (SOAS), where he wrote his thesis on Chinese political security considerations in Central Asia. A fluent Mandarin speaker, Zachary was the recipient of a Taiwan Ministry of Education Huayu Scholarship and spent years working and studying in Taipei. He has worked extensively as a writer, editor and translator, and has consulted for some of the world’s largest finance firms. Zachary’s primary areas of expertise are East Asian politics, Chinese nationalism, and food security.


Benjamin E. Syme Van Ameringen, BA MA Director, Political & Business Risk

Benjamin previously worked at one of the world’s largest international legal and political risk management consulting firms. He also has worked with the United Nations in Bangladesh and various consulting firms in Taiwan. Benjamin has significant experience managing anti-corruption, due diligence and compliance projects for Fortune 500 companies, mining firms, institutional investment banks and governments. He holds a Global Master’s Degree (MA) in International Relations with a focus on international law and political risk from Webster University in Geneva, Switzerland, an honours BA in Political Science from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada and a certification in International Crisis and Risk Management from the Swedish National Defence College.


Michael W. Williams, BA MA MPA Director, Investigations & Analysis

Mr. Williams previously spent nine years as a Supervisory Intelligence Analyst with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, including temporary duty with Joint Task Force – High Value Individuals in Baghdad, Iraq. Prior to that, Mr. Williams served as a Program Analyst with the Naval Special Warfare Command in Coronado, California. Mr. Williams retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service as a Naval Intelligence Officer. His assignments included Deputy Director of Intelligence for Special Operations during the First Gulf War; Officer-in-Charge of a human source collection unit in Southeast Asia; and Branch Chief of Geopolitical and Terrorism Threat Analysis for Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe, in London, with previous tours of duty at the Defense Intelligence Agency. Commander Williams received the Bronze Star and Combat Action Ribbon for service during the Gulf War. He holds a BA in International Studies from American University, an MPA in International Trade from George Washington University and an MA in History from San Diego State University.


Theadora Mills, BA MA Communications & Marketing Specialist

Theadora is a strategic communications and digital marketing specialist with experience managing corporate communications for large international NGOs, publications and private sector organizations. She has worked with clients to provide dynamic and creative communications solutions, including branding and marketing materials, social media communications, media relations, and editorial support. She holds her MA in Communication and Culture from York University and Honours BA in Communications and Business from Wilfrid Laurier University.


Alessandro Bruno, BA, MA Senior Analyst

Alessandro holds a BA in Near Eastern Studies, an MA in Middle East Studies and has completed PhD course work in Middle East Politics, all at the University of Toronto. Alessandro specializes in African, Arab and international affairs with a focus on strategic political and economic developments. He has been published extensively and is a frequent guest on television news programs including the BBC, CBC and CTV. Alessandro has worked as an industry analyst, lived and worked abroad extensively and is fluent in English, Italian, Spanish and French with a working knowledge of Portuguese, Arabic and German.


Christopher S. Ljungquist, BA MSc. Senior Analyst

Christopher holds a BA in Latin America Area Studies from American University and a MSc. in Comparative Politics (Latin America) from the London School of Economics, where he wrote on the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela. He has specialized in Latin American civil-military relations, South American security issues and the influence of religion in geopolitical dynamics. Christopher has lived and travelled extensively in Latin America and Europe and has been a research guest at the Chilean Armed Forces’ Academia de Guerra and the Academia de Estudios Politicos y Estrategicos, in Santiago, Chile. He has applied the skills he developed as the Director of Policy Analysis at the Republican Party of San Diego to the work he has done as a political analyst for a law firm in Madrid, Spain. In Madrid he has advised media on various issues of American politics. Christopher is fluent in English and Spanish.


Zak Rose, BA MA MPP Senior Analyst

Zachary Jonathan Rose is a political writer and policy analyst. He holds a BA in Political Science from McGill University, an MA in Political Science from the University of Windsor and a Master’s of Public Policy from the University of Michigan. He has contributed to several global affairs and international news organizations and has worked as chief speechwriter and policy director on a national political campaign.


Jeremy James, Business Development

Jeremy is a business development specialist with experience working in communications, sales and linguistics in Canada and Latin America. He graduated in business & marketing and has completed a certificate in renewable energy resources and risk management. Jeremy worked as an Immigration Liaison Officer for a major sovereign European nation, where he processed and performed background checks on thousands of visa applicants. Jeremy’s particular interest with Latin American foreign affairs derives from living in Colombia where he was a linguistic consultant at the corporate level. Later on, he worked in business development for an energy-consulting firm that specialized in renewable resources and risk analysis. Jeremy is fluent in English, French, and Spanish.
