Winter is coming but there remains no indication that Europe-bound natural gas supply from Russia will be increased in order to ease prices. The latest hopes to that effect were dashed on Monday after a pipeline auction failed to reveal any new supply boost. The immediate result was another 18% surge in European natural gas prices; but even that was a drop in the bucket given the eye-watering 400% ascent in prices over the course of the past year.
